Take your diving skills to the next level and learn how to protect yourself and others with the SSI Diver Stress & Rescue program. This highly rewarding course teaches you how to prevent problems, manage emergencies, and become a more confident and capable diver.
Through a combination of practical training and knowledge development, you will learn how to identify stress in yourself and other divers, respond effectively to emergency situations, and provide assistance when needed. Despite the serious topics, the course is engaging, hands-on, and often considered one of the most enjoyable and valuable diving experiences.
What You’ll Learn
- Self-rescue techniques and stress management
- Recognizing and assisting stressed or panicked divers
- In-water rescue techniques and safe exits
- Assisting tired or injured divers (swimming and non-swimming assists)
- Responding to unresponsive divers at the surface and underwater
- Missing diver search procedures
- Emergency management and accident response
- First aid considerations for diving-related injuries
Practical Training
You will participate in realistic rescue scenarios, allowing you to apply your skills in controlled conditions. This hands-on approach builds confidence and prepares you to react effectively in real-life situations.
Requirements
To enroll in the SSI Diver Stress & Rescue program, you must:
- Be at least 12 years old
- Be certified as an SSI Advanced Adventurer or equivalent
- Hold a valid First Aid and CPR certification (such as SSI React Right) within the past 2 years
- Be in good physical health
Divers aged 12–14 will earn the SSI Junior Diver Stress & Rescue certification.

The course typically takes 3–4 days to complete.
